Surveyor – Transportation (Lincolnshire, IL or Chicago, IL)

AGI has a solid project portfolio in the Structural and Roadway design disciplines with multiple key contracts currently in place.

We are seeking qualified candidates for this exciting job opportunity to fill our Surveyor – Transportation position, based out of our Lincolnshire, IL or Chicago, IL office. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing and overseeing surveying activities from field data collection through project completion, while working closely with engineers, project managers, and field crews.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee boundary, topographic, construction, right-of-way, and transportation surveys.
  • Manage surveying activities for roadway, highway, bridge, and other transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Review and interpret survey plans, construction documents, right-of-way information, and engineering plans.
  • Perform calculations and prepare survey drawings, plans, and deliverables.
  • Process and analyze field survey data using appropriate surveying and CAD software.
  • Develop and review digital terrain models, alignments, profiles, cross sections, and other transportation-related survey information.
  • Work with engineering and project teams to ensure survey data supports design and construction requirements.
  • Coordinate with field crews, project managers, engineers, and clients.
  • Conduct quality control reviews of survey data, calculations, and deliverables.
  • Assist with construction layout, staking, and verification activities as needed.
  • Ensure surveying work complies with applicable Illinois laws, professional standards, and project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to survey technicians and junior staff.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Surveyor (PLS) in Illinois or the ability to obtain Illinois licensure within 1 year.
  • Demonstrated experience with transportation and roadway surveying projects.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Strong knowledge of surveying principles, practices, calculations, and field procedures.
  • Experience working with survey data and preparing survey-related plans and deliverables.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering, roadway, and construction plans.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 8 years surveying experience
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
  • Experience with state or local Department of Transportation projects.
  • Experience with roadway construction layout and staking.
  • Experience with right-of-way surveys and transportation corridor projects.
  • Familiarity with GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, and other modern surveying equipment.
  • Experience coordinating survey activities across multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable Illinois surveying standards and transportation design practices.

Pay

  • $90,000 to $135,000 based on experience
